Community Scholarships will be
available beginning in March. It's not too early to start gathering
letters of recommendation and writing essays. Many of the community
scholarships request these items, and our teachers get very busy in March
writing letters of recommendation. If you request a letter of
recommendation, please be sure to give your teacher a brief idea of who
you are including activities you have participated, leadership activities,
sports, clubs and volunteer opportunities you have been involved in. Pay
particular attention to things like computers skills, languages spoken, and
other skills you have learned throughout your career as a student. If you
have worked part-time or full-time during school or during the summer, it is a
good idea to let your teacher know since we don't usually know everything you
have done. Write it in the format included here.
Some examples of things your recommenders may want to
discuss in their letters include:
- your dedication to your extra-curricular activities
- how you are as a student, team player, employee, or
group member
- your community service and volunteer work
- specific contributions you have made to your school
or community
- your specific achievements or honors you have
received

teammates, co-workers, etc.

other people at your school or in your community
