For GroupWise access from your home:

Go to: http://gw.taosschools.org

You must have assigned a GroupWise password while at school.  Use your regular Novell username and password, not your GroupWise password.  This service works much easier if you make the passwords the same.

STAFF:  Click here for the Technical FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) for answers to some of the most common problems people contact us about.

DEPARTMENT HEADS:  Click here for this year's New Mexico ADS manual.

Click here to fix your Internet Proxy server.

Click here for the district's Acceptable Use Policy.

Problems or questions can be filled out on the webform.  You can also download the Word document, computer ticket.  You can type in your problem and then attach it in an email to us or print out a few of these to fill out when your machine(s) malfunctions().  Send it through school snail mail.

Technology Levy helps this district

There are more than 1500 computers for 3000 students and 500 staff.  The school district would not have this many computers if it were not for the School Board's ability to use the Technology Levy Act to purchase computer equipment, software and to construct new labs and improve classroom electrical capabilities for computers.  Four years ago, the first Technology Levy was passed for two million dollars.  The second was for nearly 3 million dollars.  This is never an increase in taxes, only a continuance, of the sales tax voters approved to build the hospital to now benefit the school system.  The voters also approved a 2mil levy for the school district.  The voters of Taos county certainly want their schools to have what the children need for the 21st Century.  Click here to find out more about the Technology Levy.

The high school, which has nearly 1000 students has nearly 400 computers.

E-Rate helps this district

The Taos Municipal School network has been largely paid for through the wise use of the Federal E-Rate program by Mr. Ed Ramsey.  With year 6, we will be approaching the 3 million dollar mark.  The district, being 100% free and reduced lunch, has only paid 10% of the total cost.  Our schools used students, teachers and community volunteers on Net-Days to get wired.  We did not use E-Rate funds to pay for the installation of our network cabling.

The E-Rate has allowed us to build a state-of-the-art Gigabit network with plenty of room to grow.  Districts such as ours would never be able to build the network we have without this program.  Students in poorer districts have watched as wealthy schools built networks and put in computers.  Students at these schools have had a head start.  This program gives our children what they need to catch up.

Tiger-Net Technical Specifications

Each building site is designed in star topology using Gigabit fiber optic switches at the center that link to fast Ethernet switches which connect to offices and/or classrooms.  Take a look at the high school network.  Each school complex has its own T1 which www.bandwidthplace.com helps assure me that the speed is what it should be.

The high school was the first to receive the new Allied Telesyn Gigabit switch known as the SwitchBlade.  There is a SwitchBlade at the center of the middle school as well.  The elementary schools will have the smaller version of the same Gigabit switch.  We hope to upgrade all schools by the end of the 2003-04 school year.  This summer Enos Garcia and Taos Elementary schools were upgraded.   Each of these upgrades will necessitate a redesign of major parts of each elementary school network.
