Technology Department Message

Dear Parents and Students,

The Technology Department at Taos Schools is committed to supporting school communication with families! We want to tell you about the systems we use to communicate with you and a few easy things you can do to help us do that better. Look for a start of the year letter from school with information for student Office365 logins. Microsoft Office365 applications allow teachers and students to work together collaboratively and securely in the Cloud. This supports students with greater access to information. Students in grades 3-12 will receive account information to log in to Office365 and are then able to install Office applications such as Microsoft Word and PowerPoint locally on a home computer or mobile device via their login.

The back-to-school letter will also include student and parent PowerSchool logins for all grades. To access your account, you can log in for the first time here and then download the App, PowerSchool Mobile, from your preferred App Store. PowerSchool tracks student attendance and grading information so you can monitor grades and absences in real time. If you set up the Mobile App to allow notifications, PowerSchool will notify you when your student misses a class. If you need help with your login, please contact your school’s main office.

For students in grades 8-12 your back to school letter will also include login information for students Canvas accounts. Canvas is the official Taos Municipal Schools Learning Management System (LMS)where students can safelyengage in digital learning and assessment lead by their live classroom teachers both at school and at home or anywhere with internet access. These letters will get into the hands of parents at back to school events. If you do not receive one, please contact your school’s main office.

Another service we use to communicate directly to families is School Messenger. School Messenger sends alerts to your home phone, cell phone, or via text message, if you opt for that delivery method. Please contact the main office at your child's school to make sure that we have your current home or cell phone numbers and email to assure that you are receiving important messages in the way that works best for you and that your child's emergency contact information is current. Once enrolled in the service, alerts for urgent messages, special events, and important dates will come straight to you.

In addition to these communication systems, we are pleased to share with our community the updated, mobile-friendly At you'll find useful district information, a showcase of the good work and positive impact of students and staff and important news and information from the SuperintendentSchool Board and each of ourschools. Resources you will find at will include: our school year calendar and policiesboard meeting informationstudent nutrition infocommunity links and resources, useful documents and forms, and contact informationEach school's web page is designed to be a mini site for your school. School sites will be unique, but each will offer resources such as monthly lunch menus from Student Nutrition, supply lists, contact lists, forms, and an events calendar that you can sync to your own calendar to stay up to date. Each school page also includes a Facebook icon in the upper right of the pages which you can click to connect with your school on social media. From the home page, that icon takes you to the District Facebook page. Every page has a Twitter icon to connect to the District Twitter page. If you have a suggestion or request for improving the district or school pages, or have writing, images or video to share, please email us here.

We look forward to being a partner in your student’s education through the use of our digital learning and communication systems.
